The company has established a science and technology R& D center in 2011, to integrate and develop potential human resource of science and technology R&D within the company, and to build a general platform for science and technology R&D, co-operation, exchange, application, transformation, management and service. And during last five years, the company has established a series of supporting systems such as Measures to Manage, Evaluate and Encourage Science and Technology R&D Groups, Measures to Manage Science and Technology Projects and Achievement Transformation, and Funds Management Measures to Major Science and Technology Program for Water Pollution Control and Treatment.
The company insists on independent innovation, innovation by absorption, and innovation by integration. Based on application for “Hi-tech enterprise” and “Science and Technology Innovative Pilot Enterprise of Kunming City” in 2014, the company accelerates to build up a science and technology innovative working platform of higher level. And to make good use of the opportunity in undertaking national research project for the 12th Five-Year Plan - Special Water Project Kunming subproject the company unites with more than 10 top national scientific research institutes such as Tsinghua University, Tongji University, Guangzhou Municipal Engineering Group Ltd., and Tsinghua University Planning & Design Institute (THUPDI), to form a strong team in scientific research and engineering design to take part in research and engineering reformation projects, and it actively applies for national, provincial and municipal planning projects for science and technology to be a subject for technical innovation decision, R&D investment, scientific research organization and achievement transformation. Since the establishment in 2011, the company has undertook 20 national, provincial and municipal projects for science and technology research, and actively sought fund support from scientific research platforms of different levels. Up to now, it has achieved R&D expenditures and support funds of more than RMB 80 million from different levels, and taking self-investment for scientific research into consideration, the company has had a total investment of more than RMB 250 million into scientific research and model project construction. The investment into science and technology innovation is high than average industry level, which greatly promotes and supports science and technology innovation of the company.
As to transformation and application, the company has such science and technology achievements based on special water project and relevant scientific research projects as follows: optimized partition in biochemical treatment to sewage plant, accurate dosing in deepened treatment, advanced nitrogen removal technology by segmented external carbon source, micro-polluted water treatment technology by speed separation. And the company has used them in reformation project for quality improvement and performance improvement in its water purification plant. The science and technology innovation achievements promote upgrade in sewage treatment and general optimization of facilities and equipment. And based on stable compliance of treated water with national water standard of Grade 1-A, through further process reformation, optimization and superposition, the treated water from sewage treatment plant in main urban areas of Kunming can completely (except some individual indexes, such as total nitrogen) comply with the standard of classification III for surface water, which has a good foundation for urban water cyclic utilization and water supplement to landscape rivers. At present, energy consumption of the company continues to drop. Each water purification plant in main Kunming urban areas decreases power consumption per tonnage water KWH, by 18.2%, which is lower than 0.30 KWH, the national average level of the industry in 2014, by about 23.33%. Especially, Kunming No.2 Water Purification Plant has power consumption per tonnage water of only 0.19, which is among top 11% of all the sewage treatment plants in the country with national emission standard complying with Grade 1-A in 2017
The company continues to improve R&D system for science and technology innovation, and help the company to have an important role in emission reduction in Yunnan Province and Kunming City. In recent years, the emission reduction amount of COD and ammonia nitrogen by the company accounts for 95% of Kunming total amount and 50% of Yunnan. In recent 7 years, the company has achieved 14 registered patents, 11 software copyrights, and have published more than 60 monographs or thesis, cultivated more than 100 technical cadre talents in science and technology R&D, technology reformation and project implementation, and acted as the main editor for industry technical standards of Yunnan Province for sewage treatment, and took part in editing national technical standards for sewage treatment and recycled water. And in each national performance contest for energy saving and emission reduction among urban sewage treatment plants, the affiliated water purification plants of the company have good performances for times, especially four water purification plants have ever won the title as “National Top 10”.
